A while ago when I was not feeling so well, a dear friend (Selma, if you’re reading me… ;-)) advised me to make a tea, and watch a good movie. So I followed her idea, and made myself a burning comforting spiced tea. I generally like to have a tea whenever I want to relax. I thought I’d share with you my favorite tea recipe for those special moments : the famous chai “latte”
So here’s my recipe :
First put some water in a saucepan. Add in 2 or 3 cloves, sliced fresh ginger or half a coffee spoon of ginger powder, another one of pepper powder, one more of cinnamon and 4 crushed cardamom seeds. Let it boil for few minutes. Then add a tea spoon of black tea. Stir gently and cover the saucepan. Let it infuse for 3 mins then filter the tea, pour it into another saucepan and add some milk and sugar as you like it. Stir until it boils and voila ! Your chai is ready !
Hope you enjoy it !
Chai is one of my favorite things to drink! I never thought about actually making it myself – but this is great! 🙂

I think the home made version is so much better ! and the taste is never really the same depending of the amount of each spice you put in it..

Oh, this is perfect! I’ve been meaning to make my own homemade chai tea… I have all the ingredients but the few attempts I’ve made are so bad… the spices are just never strong enough! I’m partially to really strong and spicy tea! I will definitely try this. Thank you SO much for posting it!
I heard that ‘chai’ is the word for tea in a lot of countries, regardless of what kind of tea. ‘Masala’ is the word for spiced. So, for the Chai latte/Chai tea we think of in America is ‘Masala Chai’ abroad? But it probably varies from place to place!
Great post 🙂

Thank you so much Amber ! Glad you like it, hope it will turn out well this time !
I looked up for “chai” you’re right it comes from the chinese word for tea “cha”. In kerala though, when you ask for a “chai” you’ll get your spiced tea with milk, but I’m sure it might be different in another state/country ! So many stories around tea !
